Our Mission

For generations, Cherokee citizens have traveled far beyond our historical boundaries in search of education, employment, and family. Yet, our connection to our shared fire—our Tsalagi identity—remains unbreakable, even across the dry plains and soaring peaks of New Mexico. We treat each other’s existence as sacred (ᎤᎵᏍᎨᏗ ᏕᏣᏓᏰᎸᏎᏍᏗ / Ulisgedi Detsadayelvsesdi ) and strive to strengthen one another with encouraging words

The New Mexico Cherokee Community (NMCC) is a non-political, non-profit organization that was founded to serve as a digital and physical hearth dedicated to Cherokee history, culture, heritage, tradition, and fellowship. We serve tribal citizens and those of Cherokee descent residing outside the historic boundaries of the Cherokee Nation and Bands.

We organize regular meetings, language study groups, and craft workshops, ensuring that our elders can share wisdom, our children can hear our syllables, and our community can stay deeply rooted in Cherokee heritage while thriving in New Mexico.
